More Information

Q: How does file synchronization work?
A: BeInSync securely and automatically syncs folders across different computers and makes sure any file created, edited or deleted on one computer will also be updated on the other computers. For example, a user can update a file on his or her office computer and this file will also be updated on the home computer (and vice versa). To do so, BeInSync establishes a secured Virtual Data network between the different computers. It monitors the file system for changes and whenever an update needs to take place, it will go over this network and be updated on all computers.

Q: How many files can I sync or share with BeInSync? Is there a limitation on file size?
A: BeInSync does not limit the number or size of files you may sync or share! It can be 10KB, 10MB or 10GB. All files are transferred directly between the user computers without being stored on or routed through any third party servers, so any size file or files may be transferred this way, and you can be assured of your files' privacy and security.

Q: Is BeInSync secure?
A: Yes. All BeInSync communications are encrypted using strong 256-bit SSL encryption. When using online backup, BeInSync provides additional file encryption.

Q: Will BeInSync synchronize files I edited while I was offline?
A: Yes, BeInSync monitors your files even when you are offline, and will update the other computers when you are back online.

Q: What happens if I someone changed a shared file while I was working on it?
A: BeInSync handles such conflicts in an intelligent way. Instead of alerting the user to resolve the conflicts as they occur, it will silently keep all versions on all computers. When you try to open the file in conflict you will be prompted to select the correct version and resolve the conflict.

Q: Do all computers need to be online at the same time?
A: Since BeInSync communications take place directly between the computer in your network, at least 2 computers need to be online at the same time for files to be transferred.

Q: Does BeInSync transfer the entire file when I make changes to it?
A: BeInSync uses byte-level file transfer to transfer only the portion of the file that had been changed. Additionally, BeInSync compresses the files while transferring them.

Q: How long are old versions retained when using online backup?
A: BeInSync can retain old versions indefinitely. There is no limitation on the time or on the number of versions kept.

Q: What are the system requirements?

  • Windows 2000, XP or Vista operating system
  • Intel Pentium III 600 MHz or higher
  • 256MB of memory and above
