BeInSync is capable of performing its synchronization tasks even when behind a firewall or a NAT router. If you are behind a firewall or NAT router and would like to use the remote Web access feature, you will need to configure your firewall or NAT. Also, for best performance, it is recommended to properly configure the firewall or NAT. Read below how to configure your firewall or NAT device.
If you are using a personal firewall, make sure you allow BeInSync traffic when prompted to do so by the firewall. If all your computers are behind NAT routers, open one of these computers in inbound BeInSync traffic. The ports than need to be opened are:
- TCP port 5584, to allow BeInSync synchronization.
- TCP port 5585, to allow remote Web access.
NOTE: If you wish to use multiple computers behind the same NAT router, you will need to assign different port numbers to each of the computers. For example, the first PC will be using ports 5584-5585, the second 5586-5587, and so on. The router will need to be configured accordingly. To configure the port settings within BeInSync, click the 'Settings' button and then on 'Connection Settings…'.
NOTE: If one of your computers is behind a corporate firewall which blocks outgoing traffic on non-standard ports such as 5584 and 5585, configure your other computer to listen to communication on one of ports that are permitted: 21 (FTP), 23 (Telnet), 80 (HTTP) or 443 (HTTPS).
Below are instructions of how to configure some of the most popular routers:
